POSITION TITLE: MINISTER OF CHILDREN AND FAMILIES

REPORTS TO: Pastor

FUNCTION: Responsible for the organization and implementation of a comprehensive ministry to children ages birth through sixth grade and their families.

SUPERVISES: Weekday Preschool Director, paid and volunteer childcare workers, Children’s Summer Intern, and all outreach ministries (MOPS, etc.)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

I. Education A. Work with the Minister of Education / Administration to plan, coordinate, and evaluate a comprehensive children’s ministry, including the research and selection of teaching curriculum. B. Enlist and provide training for all preschool and children’s teachers. C. Conduct training for all paid workers and volunteers in the area of children’s ministry. D. Coordinate preschool and children’s groups regarding the use of program materials, equipment, supplies, and space.

II. Ministry A. Recommend and implement new ministries deemed necessary to reach and disciple children and their families. If this requires the hiring of additional personnel, follow guidelines on page 11, item D, of the Personnel Manual. B. Maintain and participate in active visitation and outreach ministry within your ministry area and assist in the visitation of the sick, hospital patients, and newcomers. C. Assist the Pastor in the area of counseling. D. Conduct weddings, funerals, and assist in baptisms and other elements of the worship services as directed by the Pastor. E. Work in coordination with the Childhood Education Committee.

III. Activities A. Plan and conduct year-round projects and activities for preschoolers and children and their families. B. Organize, plan and coordinate Vacation Bible School. C. Enlist and evaluate personnel under your area of supervision. D. Develop and implement a system of written evaluations of paid employees under your supervision. E. Develop and implement a system of evaluations for volunteers and teachers utilizing ministry leaders and department directors. F. Coordinate activities with other staff members, as needed.

IV. Prepare and administer an annual budget for the Children’s Ministry. 37

V. Safety Develop and implement programs and written handbooks including, but not limited to, the following: - hygiene, safety and security of the children - policies for teachers, paid workers and volunteers - background checks of teachers, paid workers and volunteers

VI. In coordination with the Publishing Secretary, maintain your ministry area website link.

VII. Work with denominational and interdenominational leaders in areas of mutual concern.

VIII. Maintain a Christian spirit and attitude with everyone and assist other staff members as needed.

IX. Perform any other duties assigned by the Pastor.
