Director of Discipleship and Spiritual Growth

Job Description

 

 

Ministry Focus:

To oversee the spiritual formation of church members (children, youth, and families) through the discipleship ministries of the church (Sunday School, Wednesday Night Programming, and other opportunities) and to directly oversee the church’s preschool and children’s ministries.

 

Relationships:

The Director of Discipleship and Spiritual Growth shall be a full-time church staff member and serve under the pastor's direction. He or she shall also serve as an ex-officio member of the committees assigned by the pastor.

Qualifications:

  • The Director of Discipleship and Spiritual Growth shall be a strong, mature Christian.
  • Demonstrate calling to ministry, showing a passion for discipleship, children’s ministry, worship, and outreach, both personally and at the ministry level.
  • Have, at minimum, training and/or experience in related fields of programs and leadership development.
  • Ability to work with people and coordinate ministries and programs within the church that involve all aspects of discipleship (children, youth, and families).
  • Ability to utilize technology relevant to this position, such as a personal computer (basic processing, membership database, internet, etc.), digital projector, social networking/media, etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Advocate within the church for Discipleship and Spiritual growth, providing leadership and vision for a comprehensive pathway for Christian discipleship.
  • Assist in curriculum development that leads to spiritual formation in a holistic approach.
  • Encourage church members to explore and use their spiritual gifts; Enlist and equip leaders, volunteers, and teams through training and support.
  • Evaluate and research materials for Sunday School and Small Groups.
  • Oversee and work directly with the Children’s Committee to implement Year-Round programs for Christian Education and summer activities (VBS, camps, fellowships, etc.)
  • Assist the Pastor in ministerial duties such as church administration, visitation, outreach, etc.
  • Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Pastor in keeping with the scope of this job description.

Work Week:
This position will be based on a minimum of a flexible 40-hour work week as determined through consultation with the Pastor and Personnel Committee.
