First Baptist Church of Homer is a typical rural county seat church facing all of the challenges of the church in our day. We have a small children's ministry and a small youth ministry, especially in Sunday School. We do have a bus ministry with a local school on Wednesday nights which helps us have 15-20 children and youth attending. We have nine volunteers working with children and youth to keep ministry going.
Our church is weighted toward being an older congregation. We are still financially stable and our pastor is committed to the church, having served here for eleven years. Our church has been in the community for 180 years. We have a daycare in our building which has approximately 25 children in attendance. We have a thrift store ran by our church next door. We are an active church doing lots of good things, and we need someone to help us reach young families.
We are looking for someone to reinvigorate our ministry to children, youth and young families. There are five schools in the parish and we have worked with all of them to varying degrees over the years. These five schools graduate approximately 100 children a year.
Our previous full-time minister of youth and education worked primarily with youth and children's ministry and resigned in August to take a position with another church. We are seeking a full-time minister to take help us reach our community for Jesus Christ.
